It is a good idea to expect heartache and loneliness after a breakup. What you may not be able to anticipate is how each one will impact you. Not everyone experiences the heartache and loneliness after a breakup in the same way. It’s important that you take that into consideration when putting these tips into practice.
Surround Yourself with People Who Love You
One of the worst things about a breakup is that it has the tendency to leave you feeling unlovable. If you take the time and make the effort to spend as much time as possible with friends and family who love you very much you will find yourself much better prepared to handle the heartache and loneliness after a breakup that tends to devour some people.
Get Involved for a Good Cause
There are plenty of great causes out there to support. Your involvement in these causes after a breakup accomplishes many things. First, it fills your time. Second, it introduces you to new people. Third, it enables you to turn your pain into something positive. It’s good for you and the cause you are supporting. More importantly, it prevents you from spending countless hours home alone suffering the ill effects of heartache and loneliness after a breakup.
Become a Joiner
There are all kinds of community groups, organizations, professional groups, church groups, and school groups that you can join. Find a group (or a few) that interests you and join up. You will make new friends, do new things, and find a new sense of community. You’ll be so busy making new friends and doing new things that you will never need to find yourself drowning in the loneliness that often accompanies heartache after a breakup.
Consider Social Dating Services
There are quite a few options available depending on where you live. You’ll be surprised at churches that offer socials for adults re-entering the dating world. There are also community events, and a relatively new sensation that is making waves around the world known as “speed dating”. With speed dating you enjoy small sessions with several different members of the opposite sex during the course of an evening.
Afterwards you are able to make note of those you would be interested in spending more time with in the future. This exposes you to a wide range of people you would not otherwise be able to meet to overcome heartache and loneliness after a breakup and provides a safer; more anonymous environments for this modern version of blind dating.
Next you need to do some serious soul searching. If you are ready to move on you will find that there is a lot you can learn to avoid mistakes in future relationships.
